Habits with Your To Dos
To-do lists are important for business owners.
What’s more important is the ability to have strong habits.
Habits will help you with your business.
The to-dos will change.
The habits is what you’ll fall back to.
You want to create strong habits.
A to do is something you create the morning of, Sunday in preparation for the week, or the night before. To-do’s can be effective, but they also can be ineffective.
Because the reality is that life happens.
Life tends to get in the way of plans sometimes.
So habits are what are more consistent, because even if something happens you’ll make sure you get a habit done that day as opposed to an arbitrary t0-do you created.
Answering your emails is something that is most likely a habit for you.
So you want to create habits like this. Things that you consciously do to start that are beneficial similar.
The key to creating a habit is to do something small that is manageable.
If you do something complex that takes a lot of energy, effort, and time, it will be a lot harder to create a habit with that activity.
One of the easiest habits to create is something right away in the morning when you get up.
Do something that is productive and really moving the needle on your business.
Maybe it is Answering all your emails first thing in the morning, Creating content, Deploying marketing, Reach out to companies for partnerships, Posting jobs on indeed, Advertising on social. Whatever your job is, focus on things that help move the needle.
Again you want to do things like this after certain important prompts. Making sure you get something done before lunch, doing something right after lunch is an example of a prompt.
Maybe you have a 10 am meeting every day. So right after the meeting do X. Right before the meeting do Y.
Create habits at certain times of the day. This can be just as powerful as your to-dos and schedules because this is your inner work and inner schedule.
You want to have good habits that you fall back into.
Generally if you’re active on your computer and phone doing work related things good stuff will happen. If you work for yourself or you own your own business, you might be bouncing around in the car to meetings, or hop on a lot of phone calls, or have to run errands, pick up supplies, etc. Commit to staying in front of your work computer for x hours a day. Block out the time. Even when you don’t have pressing things to do on the computer, do it anyway.
