Advertising and Budget Testing
There are many ways to run online ads to generate traffic.
The premise is:
- Catchy and Compelling Ad Creative
- Proper Platform that Ad Creative Works On (Every Platform Has a Different Style)
- Ad Should Prompt Proper Call-To-Action (CTA)
- Test the Ad with A Proper Budget
- Make Sure Your Response to the CTA is Proper
If you follow all the steps above, you’re in a pretty good position.
It’s important to pick the right platform whether that’s Facebook, Instagram, magazines, direct websites, Google Adwords, etc.
Next, is what is the ad trying to get the person to do?
You want to make sure there’s as little friction as possible with what you are asking them to do.
Go to your website? Make sure your website is clear with what you do and what they should do once they are there.
Call you? Who is answering the phone?
Text you? What is the response back?
Next, is making sure you’re spending enough money to actually see if something works.
if something is under-funded, it’s pretty easy to just chalk it up as it’s not working.
Now, obviously you don’t want to go broke either testing something that doesn’t result in any sales.
For every $100 product you are trying to sell, my recommendation is to try out a budget of $300 in ad spend the first month and see what the conversion rate is in terms of leads/clients. If we find what is working in that time period, we scale up on what is working and what is not. The goal is to breakeven within the first month. If we do better, great, but the first month is usually a testing phase. Once we figure out what works, we scale.
For instance, if you have a $1,000 product you’re trying to sell, my recommendation is to really put forth $3,000 in a test.
But just because something is working, doesn’t mean it will always work.
Sounds silly. But you can scale up and it can be working for 10 monhts, and you keep putting more and more money in to ads.
Then in month 11, it doesn’t work. Funny enough, your monthly budget is now $10,000 and that could leave you in a bad position if it doesn’t work. THen, you say to yourself, well maybe it’s just one bad month. Well, that’s how you can dig in to a $20,000 hole quickly, and now you’re scrambling to see what works.
Scale slowly and monitor carefully.
Don’t put your eggs all in one basket either.
